The fracas began with Real Madrid's Marcelo unleashing a crunching tackle on Barcelona's Cesc Fabregas in front of the dugout. Both sets of benches ran onto the field and a brawl ensued. Amidst this, Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho managed to steal the headlines for poking Barcelona's assistant coach Tito Vilanova in the eye. The Portuguese manager was unsurprisingly sent off.

Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos let his emotions get the better of him when he picked up a red card for a tackle on Lionel Messi in the 90th minute of the 0-5 loss. Further aggrieved after an already embarrassing game, Ramos then slapped Barcelona skipper Carles Puyol, who had come to confront him after the tackle that left Messi writhing in pain. It led to both sets of players going after each other.

Zidane loses temper at Enrique (April 2003; Barcelona 1-1 Real Madrid)

Three years before the infamous headbutt incident at the 2006 World Cup final in Germany, Real's Zinedine Zidane lost his cool against Barcelona's Luis Enrique. The latter stormed up to confront Zidane after the Frenchman elbowed Puyol and was met with a volley of verbal abuse and a flurry of hands as both sets of players stepped in to calm things down.
