Don Bosco emerge U-16 champs; Bombay Scottish claim U-14 title

Don Bosco High School (Borivli) stunned defending Div-I champions Cathedral & John Connon School (Fort) 4-3 via tie-breaker to lift the boys U-16 Mumbai School Sports Association (MSSA) World Cup Fiesta inter-school football title at Azad Maidan on Wednesday.

After neither side could find the back of the net in regulation time, the final was decided on penalties, with Don Bosco's Jaden Pinto producing the match-winning save to deny Aarish Sanghvi of Cathedral, as the Borivli outfit claimed their maiden U-16 title.

Travis Pereira, Jaden, Marc Fernandes and Umang Gaikwad converted from the spot for Don Bosco, while Kabir Ashraf, Ameya Vanikar and Mikhail Marshall scored for Cathedral. Earlier, St Anne's High School (Malad) secured third place, beating Arya Vidya Mandir (Juhu) 3-2 on penalties.

Meanwhile, in the boys U-14 final, Bombay Scottish School (Mahim) defeated Don Bosco High School (Matunga) 4-3 on penalties after the teams were locked 1-1 at full time.

Priyan Parmar's seventh-minute spot-kick gave Don Bosco the lead before Ethan Taites (14') equalised for Bombay Scottish. In the shootout, Ethan, Yohan John, Azim Hakeem and Zain Khatri netted for Scottish, while Kanav Dasari, Zidane Sequeira and Daksh Rane scored for the Matunga side.

Earlier, Christ Church School (Byculla) beat Nahar International School 4-1 to finish third in the U-14 competition. MSSA awarded cash prizes of Rs 25,000, Rs 20,000 and Rs 15,000 to the champions, runner-up and third-placed teams respectively in both age groups.
