Referee Mike Jones have the Spain international his marching orders in the first half of the clash after he kicked the ball against the side of Chris Brunt's head.

Manager Jose Mourinho was critical of the referee after the game insisting the red card was "bizarre" and describing a possible three-match ban as "Harsh? Of course it's harsh".

However, a subsequent appeal has been successful with Fabregas now set to miss just one match, Chelsea's final game of the season at Stamford Bridge against Sunderland on Sunday.

"A claim by Chelsea that the three-match suspension for Cesc Fabregas is excessive has been upheld by an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing," read a statement on the FA's website.

"Fabregas was dismissed for violent conduct during the West Bromwich Albion FC v Chelsea FC fixture on 18 May.

"The Regulatory Commission has reduced the Chelsea midfielder's suspension to one match, to be served with immediate effect."
