Iraqi forward Mohammed Dawood gave the Asian champions a shock lead in the 16th minute only to see his goal being cancelled out by Mexico's Roberto De La Rosa in the 51st minute. With the draw, their first ever, Iraq collected their first points in an U-17 World Cup. Before this, they had taken part only once in UAE 2013 and had lost all their three matches.
A win would have created a bigger history for Iraq but they would be happy with the result as Mexico completely dominated the later part of the match even though they could ot score more than one goal.
