London: Former England captain John Terry's man-of-the-match performance against Tottenham Hotspur in the League Cup final at the Wembley was inspired by the England national anthem, the defender revealed after the 2-0 victory on Sunday.

The 34-year-old veteran scored his first major final goal before a Kyle Walker own goal handed manager Jose Mourinho his first trophy of his second Stamford Bridge tenure.

"I have missed it, playing in these big stadiums and in these competitions and I'm delighted to get back to Wembley," Terry said. "They started playing the national anthem before the game and I was going then."

However, the defender ruled out a return to the national team, which he retired from in 2012 after being stripped of captaincy in the wake of the Anton Ferdinand racism controversy.

Asked if he was considering an England return, Terry replied: "No. It's the simple answer, I don't want to go into it right now. Being back at Wembley, the atmosphere, the stadium, it's one of the best I have played in, but it's never crossed my mind. I have drawn a line under it and the England squad can move on now."

For his match-winning performance, Terry was allowed to take the League Cup trophy home and it seems that his two kids - Georgie John and Summer Rose - made the most of the opportunity and went to sleep with the trophy.

Terry shared a picture of his kids sleeping next to the trophy on Instagram in which Terry's son, Georgie, can be seen with his dad's winner's medal around his neck besides a Chelsea jersey.
