Premier League champions Arsenal and Ecuador's star defender Piero Hincapie, 24, has had a rough few days. Following his country's 0-1 loss to Ivory Coast in their FIFA World Cup campaign opener, the centre-back's girlfriend Aura de la Cruz has now called it quits.

De la Cruz, a model, confirmed the couple's decision to go their separate ways with a post on her Instagram account. "It's been a very difficult decision, but sometimes you have to accept that things don't work out the way you expected. All I ask is that you stop associating me with him and sending me hate reviews or messages," read her post.
Hincapie had kept his dating life private, but fans spotted De la Cruz cheering him on at the Puskas Arena in Budapest, Hungary, during Arsenal's Champions League final against France's Paris Saint-Germain, which they lost 3-4 on penalties.
