Borivli boys beat Matunga lads in Don Bosco battle

Don Bosco High School (Borivli) held their nerve in the penalty shootout to beat Don Bosco High School (Matunga) 4-2 and book a spot in the semi-finals of the boys U-16 Mumbai School Sports Association (MSSA) World Cup Fiesta inter-school football tournament at Azad Maidan on Monday.

The Matunga side, who did not concede a goal in the group stage, saw their title hopes dwindling after failing to score in regulation time.

In the ensuing tie-breaker, Francis Pereira, Danish Shaikh, Jaden Pinto and Umang Gaikwad converted their spot-kicks for the Borivli side, while only Vivaan Charaniya and Prajeet Vinayagamoorthy could score for the Matunga school.

In another quarter-final tie, Cathedral and John Connon School (Fort) beat Bombay Scottish School (Mahim) 1-0, with Ameya Vanikar (14') scoring the decisive goal.
