German star Thomas Muller splits with wife Lisa after 17 years

Germany football legend Thomas Muller, 36, has reportedly separated from his wife Lisa, ending their 17-year marriage.

According to German newspaper Bild, the couple's media lawyer Christian Schertz stated: "The couple separated amicably some time ago. No further statements will be made." Lisa has also reportedly deleted all pictures of the two-time UEFA Champions League-winner from her Instagram account.

Muller, a former Bayern Munich star, moved to MLS club Vancouver Whitecaps last year even though Lisa didn't. At the time, the 2014 World Cup champion explained that his wife's decision to remain in Germany was in order to continue as a professional dressage horse rider.

Earlier this year in March, Lisa had spoken about the difficulties of being the partner of a popular footballer, stating she was often considered "the dumbest in the room." Muller and Lisa first met in 2007 at Bayern Munich's academy. They got married in 2009.
