Badminton: Pune's Tanishka Deshpande wins double crown

Pune's unseeded Tanishka Deshpande ended up winning the double crown, while Nagpur's Rohan Gurbani lived upto his top billing by winning the U-15 title in the 2nd Maharshtra State Dr Vijay Patil sub-junior badminton selection tournament at DY Patil Sports Academy in Nerul yesterday


Pune's unseeded Tanishka Deshpande ended up winning the double crown, while Nagpur's Rohan Gurbani lived upto his top billing by winning the U-15 title in the 2nd Maharshtra State Dr Vijay Patil sub-junior badminton selection tournament at DY Patil Sports Academy in Nerul yesterday.

Tanishka thrashed her U-15 opponent - Greater Mumbai's Rudra Rane 21-9, 21-12. Later, she teamed with Janhavi Jagtap of Mumbai suburbs to blast the Pune pair of Ananya Phadke and Shatakshi Kinikar 21-14, 21-7.

In the boy's U-15 final, Rohan struggled before defeating Tanishq Saxena 21-11, 21-18.

Nashik's Skand Shanbhag, who trains under Mangirish Palekar, easily won the U-13 title with a 21-15, 21-7 win over Prajwal Sonawane.

Meanwhile, in the girls U-13, top-seed Tara Shah beat Greater Mumbai's Rudra Rane 21-15, 21-7.
