Reigning World Junior champion Jin Wei Goh of Malaysia made a first round exit from the Tata Open International Challenge after going down 19-21, 20-22 in 49 minutes to World No 95 Tanvi Lad at the Cricket Club of India's badminton courts yesterday. Goh, however, blamed a minor muscle pull on her hip during the second game which resulted in her defeat.

"It was just not my day. This is my last tournament of the year and I came here thinking I could collect some ranking points, but I lost in the first round, which is disappointing. I couldn't play my normal game after I had a pull on my hip in the second game when I was trailing 3-5," said the 15-year-old.

Lad was surprised to be on the winning side. "I knew that the match would be a close one. That she is the World Junior Champion was playing at the back of my mind and first round matches are always tricky. I am glad I managed to overcome that," said Lad.

Meanwhile, Lad had a relatively easy outing in the second round, beating Mayuri Yadav 21-12, 21-13 in 25 minutes to enter the quarter-finals.
