Mumbai girl Supriya Joshi stole the opening day's honours, upsetting eight seed Grandmaster Vishnu Prasanna of Tamil Nadu in the ninth edition of the Mumbai Mayor's International Open Chess Tournament

Mumbai girl Supriya Joshi (ELO 1984) stole the opening day's honours, upsetting eight seed Grandmaster Vishnu Prasanna of Tamil Nadu (ELO 2524) in the ninth edition of the Mumbai Mayor's International Open Chess Tournament at Mount Litera School International, Bandra yesterday.

In the game which started with C4 converted to King's Indian defense, Supriya was lagging behind.

She sacrificed her knight to divert the pieces defending the king, thus getting the decisive kingside attack and won the game in 29 moves with 3 passed pawns.
