Hyderabad: The first quarter-final of the Indian Open went this way and that as can be expected when two highly talented players clash. In the end, England's Kyren Wilson, nicknamed ‘The Warrior', fought his way out of trouble, capitalising on one crucial mistake by his Thailand opponent Akani Songsermsawad in what turned out to be the final frame, to become the first one through to the semi-finals.

Having lost the opening frame in the best-of-seven-frames clash, the highly spoken of 21-year-old Akani, ranked 113, won the next two against Wilson, ranked 16 in the world. But then, when he had a choice between black and blue at a critical juncture in the frame, the young man went for the relatively safer blue and post that handed Wilson the advantage.

Ironically Wilson himself twice missed the blue later but then eventually prevailed 4-2.

Other results:
>> Nigel Bond beat Peter Ebdon 4-3
>> Shaun Murphy beat David Lilley 4-2
>> Anthony McGill beat Stephen Maguire 4-1
