Fernando Alonso confident of winning today

The inclement conditions over the Spa-Francorchamps circuit made it a case of being in the right place at the right time on the track.

For Alonso, who trails championship leader Sebastian Vettel by 39 points, starting ninth compared with the German being second would appear to suggest he is set to lose further ground in the title hunt.

The 32-year-old Spaniard, however, knows with further rain forecast for the race then "anything can happen".

"We can win," asserted Alonso. "Vettel started 11th last year and finished second. Spa always offers you big possibilities for a comeback, especially in terms of weather unpredictability.u00a0"We have to think positively because in the wet or dry the car seems to be performing well here."
