It's believed that the colour of love is red, but in the case of India's golfing couple, Pranavi Urs and Karandeep Kochhar, who registered a one-two finish in the Indian Golf Premier League (IGPL) Invitational Mumbai at the Bombay Presidency Golf Club in Chembur on Thursday, it was always green.

Pranavi, 22, created history by becoming the first Indian woman to win a professional golf tournament while playing alongside men in the IGPL event. She carded a stunning 8-under 60 - the week's best card - to finish 14-under for the week and get the better of overnight leader Kochhar, who ended with a 12-under.

‘Wanted to get revenge'

Pranavi said it was one of her best results, but also revealed that her primary goal was to exact revenge on her boyfriend. "This [result] is up there [among my best]. But [at the] beginning of the week, my only goal was to beat Karan because we have this friendly match at every event we play together and the last time we played it was the KDGT in Bangalore and he beat me by one shot. So, this time, I wanted to beat him. And I got my revenge," Pranavi tells mid-day with a laugh.

The couple first met at the Ballantine's Golf Championship in Gurugram in 2022 and began dating a year later. The competition between them though is constant. "I wouldn't call it a rivalry but we try to push each other to do better and that helps us be better every day," added the golfer from Mysore.

Kochhar, 26, who won the Gujarat Open Golf Championship 2022 and was a double gold medalist for Chandigarh at the 2022 National Games, couldn't agree more with Pranavi. "It's healthy competition. There are some playful jabs here and there, but we don't get too serious about it. At this three-day tournament, I thought it would be weird playing against her through the second and the third day, but it was pretty normal. We had some good conversations even when either of us missed a putt or hit a bad shot. We try and keep it light and breezy. It's great to see the other person play well, there's a lot you can learn," Kochhar said.

Pranavi was in third place after the second round, while Kochhar led the way. Getting ahead of him however, was Pranavi's motivation.

Stressful second day

"The second day I was chasing more than I should have. Every time he made a birdie, I was thinking how many shots ahead of me he was. Then, yesterday [the final day] it was more about just I myself and me after I got ahead," she signed off.
