Horse racing: Shroff wins 100th Classic

Champion trainer Pesi Shroff sent out Red Bishop to win the final Classic of the 2025-26 campaign, the Indian St Leger (Gr 1) at the Pune racetrack on Sunday. Incidentally, it was the 100th Classic of his illustrious career, but instead of celebrations, he had to face the public's wrath because the unfancied Red Bishop, in the final yards of the 14-furlong trip of the St Leger, challenged and passed Fynbos (Vivek G up), the hottest favourite on the Sunday card, who was also trained by Shroff.

"Whenever I would watch him [Red Bishop] at work I often thought he could stay," said Shroff in a post-race interview, before adding, "In fact, I always had a feeling that Fynbos was not exactly a stayer, but then every horse deserves a chance to run, and attempt to win."
