Notwithstanding a flutter created by veteran trainer Imtiaz Sait, who on Saturday had inched closer to Pesi Shroff--only two points separated them--the latter continued his dominance over the western India trainers championship for yet another season. Among jockeys, Trevor Patel who consistently excelled in the saddle all through the season to notch up 55 points decisively beat his prime rival A Sandesh (39 wins) by a margin of 16 points.

Nanoli stud farm emerged as champion stud farm, while the award for the leading apprentice went to jockey S A Amit. Among bookmakers, Banarasi Das topped at Mumbai with the highest collections, and the same honour was bagged by Latif at Pune racecourse.

Record timing
As expected, the last day's feature event, the Bangalore Race Club Trophy, saw a grim battle between Paramour and Rule Downunder, with the latter, thanks to vigorous urgings of Trevor Patel, emerging victorious at the post. In the process Rule Downunder set a new record time for six furlongs, chopping of a hundredth of a second from the old one, clocking 1 minute 9.61 seconds.
