India's lone swimmer at the Olympic Games Ullalmath Gagan failed to qualify for the finals of the 1500-metre freestyle event as he went out in the heats, finishing seventh and last in Heat 1, clocking six minutes 31.14 seconds here yesterday.

The 20-year-old was one min and 5.23 secs behind the heat winner Perez Vertti Ferrer Arturo of Mexico. The Bangalorean qualified for the Olympics under FINA's strange "universality" clause. u00a0
