Nirvaan Shah of Don Bosco International School (Matunga) and Krisha Jain of Podar International School CBSE (Powai) emerged champions in the boys and girls U-12 categories respectively at the MSSA inter-school chess tournament at St Sebastian High School, Chembur, on Thursday.
For 11-year-old Nirvaan, the triumph marked his fourth consecutive MSSA chess title. He has dominated the circuit since 2022, when he clinched his maiden MSSA crown in the U-10 category at the age of eight.
Nirvaan won all of his eight matches to emerge as the undisputed champion. He is also currently ranked No. 1 in Maharashtra (U-11 category).
In the final round, Nirvaan defeated Avyaay Garg of Aditya Birla World Academy. Avi Chugh of JBCN International (Mulund) secured the runner-up spot, while Hitansh Gohil SVKM JV Parekh International School (Vile Parle) of finished third.
In the girls U-12 category, Krisha clinched top honours while Sarvaa Parlekar of IES Orion (Dadar) finished second and Aashvi Agarwal of Gundecha Education Academy (Kandivli) stood third.
