Despite Karan coming into the race having clocked his personal best timing (2:22.30) in October last year at the Eindhoven Marathon, Rashpal is confident of winning the Indian men's event today. "I have been training with Ram (Singh Yadav) at the Artillery Centre in Hyderabad.

But it is my wish to win this race and break the previous course record of 2:16:59 set in 2012 by him," said Rashpal. Meanwhile, two-time Mumbai Marathon winner Ram has set his sights at achieving the qualification time (2:18) for the World Championships to be held in Beijing this August.

"My aim right now is to finish under 2:18 so that I can qualify for the World Championships. There are younger runners who are doing well but I want to participate in the Rio Olympics before I hand over the baton to the younger runners," he said on Saturday.

In the Indian women's section, defending champion Lalita Babar will come up against 2010 Asiad gold medallist Sudha Singh and Incheon Asian Games bronze medallist OP Jaisha who is making her marathon debut today.
