Playing in only his second men's tournament, the 16-year-old Mumbai lad Goveas snatched crucial breaks in both sets to fashion the solitary upset of the day and win 6-3, 6-3. In another significant opening round tie, Aman Shah beat an unseeded Sagar Ahuja 6-4, 6-2.
