Wimbledon: Sania-Martina storm into women's doubles quarterfinals

The Indo-Swiss tennis combine of Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis came out with a clinical performance to enter the women's doubles quarterfinals of Wimbledon on Monday


London: Continuing their dominating run, Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis stormed into the women's doubles quarterfinals at Wimbledon Championships, here today.

Top seeds Sania and Swiss legend Martina downed 16th seeded Spanish team of Anabel Medina Garrigues and Arantxa Parra Santonja 6-4 6-3.

The top seeds needed only an hour and seven minutes to win their third round tie on Court 6 of the grass courts of the All-England Club.

Sania and Hingis broke their rivals twice in the opening set and three times in the second set. They lost serve once in the opening set and twice in the second.

Overall, Sania and Martina were easily the stronger pair, winning more points on their first serves, having four times the number of winners to their opponents and also winning five break points in comparison to three taken by Anabel and Arantxa. They also won 59 of the 104 points played in the match.

In the last game of the contest, where Sania was serving for the match, the top seeded duo easily won four straight points to seal the match and enter the Round of 8.

India's Rohan Bopanna and Leander Paes are also in action today in the men's doubles.

Ninth seeded Indo-Romanian pair of Bopanna and Mergea are up against Lukasz Kubot from Poland and Max Mirnyi from Belarus. 11th seeded Paes and Daniel Nestor lock horns against

Austria's Alexander Peya and Brazilian Bruno Soares in their third round.

In the boys singles, Sumit Nagal will open his campaign against Juan Pablo Ficovich from Argentina.
