India's star weightlifter, Mirabai Chanu, returned to the Commonwealth Championship competition after a long break of one year

On her return to the sport, she produced a record-breaking performance and clinched a gold medal at the event. She managed to lift successfully on three out of her six attempts

She lifted a total of 193 kg (84+109 kg) to secure the gold medal, snatch and clean and jerk records and stand atop the women's 48kg podium

The event marked Chanu's return to the 48kg category, a weight category in which she won her world championship title and two Commonwealth Games medals, but hasn't competed in since 2018

Irene Henry of Malaysia, who lifted 161kg (73kg+88kg), won the silver medal, while Wales' Nikole Roberts, 150kg (70kg+80kg), took home the bronze
