Most won't believe it, but my doomscrolling gets a lot done, at least musically. Fancams and edits are my favourite place to scout new music. So, in the background of one of these edits, I came across a song with the lyrics, "A pity she does not exist, a shame he's not a f'g. The only girl I ever loved was Andrew in drag." And I instantly wanted to add to it my playlist.
The band, "The Magnetic Fields" is now on repeat for me. The band is an American indie pop group founded and led by Stephin Merritt. It covers genres like synthpop, indie pop, and noise pop, but remains flexible due to Merritt's songwriting. My pull towards this band began with its humorous, sharp, and facetious lyricism about love.
So, if you want to be whisked away by simplicity and heaviness, I'd suggest picking up your pair of headphones, a fake scenario in your head about yourself or your favourite characters, and pressing shuffle on The Magnetic Fields.
