ThisâÂÂevening, if you drop in at Lower Parel design studio Soul Patch, 30 quirky GIFs will play in loop and entice you from projection walls. These are part of a unique exhibition titled The GIFixibit, which marks the launch of Design Fabric, an extension of Taxi Fabric. "It's a meta educational platform that discusses design, art and life in India, engaging the design fraternity in a holistic way. We plan tolaunch publications and host workshops and events focused on art and design," shares Sanket Avlani, founder of Taxi Fabric, who began turning seat covers into canvas a year ago. For the uninitiated, GIFs (Graphics Interchange Format) are compressed image files that are animated to depict movement.

The show features 35 artists from India and abroad, including Pakistan-born Canada-based Maria Qamar of Hate Copy, Amrit Kumar of Nor Black Nor White, illustrator Jasjyot Singh Hans, Tokyo-based illustrator Karan Singh and Pune-based Adrita Das. The artists have contributed a piece each, either as photographs, illustrations, handmade graphics or collages, which have been presented as a GIF.
"Now, you even find GIFs on your chat messenger. They have become part of our conversation. In fact, they are more expressive and powerful than emojis," adds Avlani.
And since we're in the month of love, the evening showcases a few artworks themed on heartbreak along with performances by singer-songwriter Ankur Tewari, Electronic music artiste Oceantied a.k.a Ketan Bahirat and VJ Wayne Joshua. Meanwhile, Taxi Fabric will be launching its own textiles and products made out of them.
