A slice of the city that misses the eye
Aadya Amrutulya,Laxmi Road
Aadya Amrutulya, located on the bustling Laxmi Road, is said to be the first tea joint of the city. Started in 1926 at Rameshwar Chowk by DP Nartekar, this humble joint for a hot cuppa was once a favoured hangout zone. A Nartekar, the present proprietor who carries on his family legacy, laments that they have a lot of competition from other big brands as now, youngsters prefer to go to branded shops to drink tea / coffee.

Still he points out that there has been a clientele that has been loyal to them for more than 50 years. The legendary reputation of this joint is understandable. According to Nartekar, people are still drawn to the restaurant by the taste of the tea, which is believed to have not changed at all since their first visit.
Aadya Amrutulya has enjoyed the patronage of famous personalities such as Asha Bhosle and Shammi Kapoor who, Nartekar says, always came to the tea stall whenever in the city. He adds that with the changing times and generations, people don’t look for the personal touch anymore.
For a steaming one yourself, a normal cup of tea can be had for '10 while a special tea for '15. Other options include coffee for '20 and masala milk for Rs 20. u00a0u00a0
