Dehradun: A day after 'Shaktiman' succumbed to injuries, police on Thursday said the case against BJP MLA Ganesh Joshi, accused of maimimg the police horse during a protest in Dehradun, will be taken to its 'logical conclusion'.

"Despite the death of Shaktiman, the case against Ganesh Joshi will continue," Dehradun SSP Sadanand Date said. The horse had lost its leg after it was allegedly beaten during clashes between BJP protesters and the police on March 14.

Joshi was arrested under the the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and Section 429 (Mischief by killing or maiming cattle etc) of the IPC and was later let off on bail last month. Date said even though the sections under which the lawmaker had been booked will not change after the animal's death, the case would be taken to its 'logical conclusion'. He also added that police are seeking legal advice in this matter.

Shaktiman's story stirred many across the country after it was seen on television dragging its broken limb in excruciating pain during the protest.

The 13-year-old horse didn't respond well to treatment and died due to infection yesterday. After the equine's death, Joshi said he was deeply saddened by the it, but continued to insist he was innocent. He claimed he had not inflicted injury on the horse, which got injured after one of its hind legs got stuck in a hole dug up by police to put up barricades.
