The city might receive heavy to very heavy rainfall for the next 48 hours, but with high tidal action notified by the civic body, the city might be put on high alert. The combination of heavy rainfall and high tides may create hazards for people living in low-lying areas, fears the BMC.

The civic body has identified about 222 spots, which are prone to water logging, while 40 areas have been labelled ‘chronic.’ The administration has advised citizens to avoid these spots. Besides, the traffic department has identified about 66 spots where traffic is likely to be affected during heavy showers.

The civic body has also placed about 220 water pumps to remove water from around 185 areas in the city. V K Rajeev, director of the Indian Meteorological Department, said, “There are chances of heavy to very heavy rainfall in city for the next 48 hours.”

L Vhatkar, director, BMC, said, “With the tidal action of about 4.95 meters being noticed, the BMC is trying to de-water all the waterlogged areas so that the situation is under control. But if it continues raining like this it will be difficult for us to keep doing so.”
