'Tulsi' decides to focus on her political career

The favourite bahu on the idiot box has decided to call it a day.

Though you would now see her more in her new avatar as a politician after the she was appointed at the head of the women's wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Smriti Irani will not accept any role in a teleserial.
"The political commitments far outweigh the responsibilities I have as an actress, so I have decided to bid adieu to the small screen," she told MiD DAY.

Irani, who shot to instant fame with the serial 'Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi', has been making swift moves up the ladder of political success. Her elevation to the post of women's wing chief comes within six months of her being included in the BJP's national executive by party president Nitin Gadkari.u00a0

"After so many political responsibilities there will be hardly any space left for acting," she said when asked whether she would continue doing serials or not. Irani, 34, who has been a star campaigner of the BJP during 2004 general elections, also contested parliamentary polls against Congress' Kapil Sibal from Chandni Chowk constituency. However, she lost the seat despite drawing huge crowds during her canvassing. She had joined the BJP in 2003.

After her defeat in the polls, she went into hibernation for the next five years. Though she participated in the campaign for 2009 general elections she was not given a party ticket. Artilculate in her new role, the BJP leader evaded questions on her new role and priorities with the new post.

"Let me understand my work and role first. I do not want to say anything now. Let my work speak for myself," she said.u00a0 As head of the Mahila Morcha, Irani will be an ex-officio member of the Central election committee of the party.
