BMC to construct 1 million affordable homes in Mumbai

Maharashtra Cabinet decided to give various concessions to economically weaker section for projects under housing for all. The government has a target of providing housing to all in the state by 2022

BMC to construct 1 million affordable homes in Mumbai

Maharashtra Cabinet decided to give various concessions to economically weaker section for projects under housing for all. The government has a target of providing housing to all in the state by 2022.


Apart from this the BMC in its Draft Development Plan has also suggested that it will construct some 1 million affordable homes in the city using salt pans and other untapped locations in the city.


According to the decision, land for such affordable housing projects will be allotted to Government housing agencies at nominal rates as per this cabinet decision. Also 50 per cent concession will be given in surveyor and development cost and stamp duty is fixed to Rs 1000 for houses meant for economic weaker section.


MHADA, MMRDA, CIDCO and now BMC has got into housing and also they are targeting the PM Awas Yojna under which people from economically weaker section will get affordable houses up to 30 square meters.
