Celebrating 15 years of Indian fashion

A glimpse into Arpita Mehta's upcoming collection

The resort wear kings
Designers Shivan and Narresh, the torch bearers of resort wear in India are back with a show in the city and this time, it will be set around a swimming pool at the venue. After the bikini sari, we wonder what will their latest must-have silhouette look like.

New on the horizon
The main show area names include several designers whom we had loved in Jabong Stage section and Gen Next category in the previous seasons. Some of these exciting names are Ujjawal Dubey, Armaan Aiman, Lovebirds and Munkee.See. Munkee.Doo. The names from the Jabong Stage section that caught the eye are Sailex, Vasundhara Mantri, Karleo, Ridhi Mehra and Dhruv Kapoor (not to be confused with the designer behind the label DRVV). Other popular young designers to watch out include Kunal Rawal, Nishka Lulla, Arpita Mehta, Huemn and Yogesh Chaudhary.

Wooing Indian weaves
Like several previous seasons, the second day will be dedicated to showcasing Indian textiles (though designers such as Krishna Mehta and Vaishali S will be showcasing on different days). The names include Divya Sheth, Antar Agni,
TV-actors-turned-designers Mayank Anand and Shraddha Nigam, Anavila Misra, Shon Randhawa’s Patine (her debut at the event), Gaurang Shah, Shruti Sancheti and Soumitra Mondal.

Venues get out of the box
For city heritage junkie, like us, the biggest news was that three big designers are hosting their shows at venues outside the main venue. This includes the spectacular Sabysachi show which took place last night at Richardson and Cruddas factory in Byculla; Manish Malhotra’s show today is inside the isolated yet picturesque New Great Eastern Mills that houses the home store, The Great Eastern Home, and Anamika Khanna’s show (grand finale) will be at Dr Bhau Daji Lad Museum. Byculla seems to be emerging as the hottest fashion destination!

The big guns are here
This season boasts of several big designer names to celebrate the beginning of the fifteenth year. This list includes Kiran Uttam Ghosh, Raghavendra Rathore, Satya Paul’s association with star wife Gauri Khan, Wendell Rodricks, Suneet Varma, Tarun Tahiliani and the one we are the most excited about — Anamika Khanna. It’s interesting that both the opening (Sabyasachi Mukherjee) and closing show designers are from Kolkata. Rathore will also debut his new prêt line, called The Imperial India Company, and a special collection which will be bandhgalas for women.

Social Media ramp
Masaba Gupta who brought print revolution in the Indian fashion industry will be a part of yet another first with an Instagram fashion show. Through this medium, everyone will be a part of the show. All one has to do is follow @LakmeFashionWk and the show, which will be all things candy, will begin at 7.30 pm.
