A day after railway employees protested the decision to convert the UNESCO-listed Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) into a rail museum, the Railways went a step ahead and invited architects and consultants to present designs for the proposed museum. Sources said that while the museum would come up on the ground and first floors, the CR general manager and his team would continue to operate from the second floor. As the designs for the project are expected to come in latest by March 15, the floors would have to be vacated at the earliest.

According to sources, the Rail India Technical and Economic Service Limited (RITES), an engineering consultancy company affiliated to the Railways, has invited expression of interest for comprehensive architectural services for the project. The sources further said, while a pre-bid meeting to answer queries about the project would be held on March 9, the bids with detailed design and a project report need to be submitted by March 15.

Pravin Bajpayee, general secretary of the Central Railway Mazdoor Sangh, said, "We will oppose the project tooth and nail. It's not acceptable under any circumstances."
