A couple was arrested by Delhi police on the complaint of US embassy where they had gone to apply for visa. Both the male and female have two passports each, which is illegal according to the passport act. The embassy found that in the past the duo had visited the UK and violated visa rules after which they were deported to India. After retuning to India they procured a second passport. An FIR in this respect was registered at Chanakyapuri police station.

A senior police official said that the accused were identified as Jasvinder Kaur and Mahinder Singh. Both are employees Punjab. "In 1998 the couple had gone to UK. Due to the overstaying they were caught by UK police and were sent back to India the next year. They again tried to apply for visa but failed. Mahinder procured another passport through an agent on a fictitious name, Parvinder. He also tried to procure a third passport on the name Manojeet," said the police official.

The official said that two days ago the couple applied for a visa at the US embassy. They were called for an interview by the embassy officials. During scrutiny of their documents the embassy found out that they had visited the UK. The couple then confessed to the violation. The embassy also found out about the second set of passports and reported the matter to local police. Cops have recovered the passports and they have been booked in a case of cheating. "They were produced before a court and were remanded to 14 days in judicial custody," said the police official.
