The Special TADA Court yesterday heard arguments to have Sanjay Dutt transferred from the high-security anda cell at the Arthur Road Jail where he is currently lodged.

The infamous cell had housed sever high-profile convicts, including underworld don Abu Salem. Dutt surrendered before the special court on Thursday to serve the remainder of his sentence.

Dutt’s advocate Rizwan Merchant said, “We have informed the court that (Dutt) is being kept in barrack no 14, the anda cell. I will be meeting him tomorrow to ascertain the exact position.”

Mediapersons continued their vigil outside Arthur Road Jail, hoping for a glimpse of the star during his shift from Arthur Road to either Yerwada or Nashik Central Prison.

At about 2 pm, Dutt’s wife Maanyata made an appearance, along with an aide who had carried food for Dutt in a bag with Sai Baba’s picture on it. The two made a quiet exit a few hours later.

Sources from the prison confirmed that there are no plans at present to shift Dutt to another prison.
