According to the BMC's disaster management department, a blast occurred while a domestic LPG cylinder was being tested in a house in Lotus colony, Shivaji Nagar.

The five injured include Rashida Ansari (45), Nazra Qureshi (26), Mariam Qureshi (2), Gautam Harwar (27) and Hydera Ansari (50). Hawrar and Hydera Ansari have suffered more than 20 per cent burns and are undergoing treatment in Sion hospital.
