Das bahane

We see him playing a badmaash in his new film, but looks like funnyman Vir Das didn't have to try too hard to look the part. This serial prankster can't resist the urge of pulling a fast one on people, including family members. He shares some of the pranks that he's played:

I convinced my parents to send me to the US for my education. They were happy with the idea of me studying Economics there, and didn't mind spending all that money on me. Halfway through the course, I called them up to break the news that I had been studying theatre and acting for a year. A lot of money went down the drain.

I once booked my best friend Sahil (a very tall guy) a Mumbai Delhi ticket. I made sure he got the last row, middle seat. What's worse, the flight had three stopovers before it landed in Mumbai. Just as a finishing touch, I ordered him a Jain meal.

I wrote a show called Broken Das and during our first advertising, we made it seem like five different comedians were performing. The audience showed up to find me playing all five characters. Luckily they were still happy.

I once convinced a girl that I was from England by putting on a British accent when I met her on the train. The only problem was, I knew it could never blossom into a relationship, unless I suddenly applied for British citizenship.

Through some stroke of luck, act of God, and kindness of kismet, I convinced Parmeet Sethi to offer me a lead role that was the polar and complete opposite of who I am. It got me a YRF film, but maybe there were some days, when I took too many takes, where Parmeet felt pranked.
