Two people, including an autorikshaw driver, stoned a Mumbai-based 40-year-old techie to death in Pune before stealing money from his bank account.
The deceased, Mohan Gopinath Shenoy, a resident of Shanti Rakshak society in Pune's Yerawada area, was a bachelor and working with IBM company.

The killers - Uttam and Vishal -- were known to the victim.
The Pune city police have nabbed Uttam alias Utya Prakash Gadave (23), from Maniknagar and his accomplice Vishal Vishwas Kale (21) from Ashoknagar in Yerawada. Both have been arrested under the relevant section of Indian Penal Code (IPC) comprising of murder, theft, criminal conspiracy and an act done with common intention.
Senior Inspector Sanjay Patil, in-charge of Yerawada police station, said, "The victim was missing from August 2. On August 5, his father filed a missing complaint with Mumbai police. Since Shenoy was staying in Pune, the case was transferred to us. On Friday, our police detained two suspicious person from Vishrantwadi area to probe a house breaking case and one of whom was Uttam. It was during this interrogation that he revealed about stoning Shenoy to death."
Shenoy had hired Uttam's auto to travel to and fro from office on a daily basis and would pay him a salary of Rs 4,500 per month. Uttam knew Shenoy's personal details including his salary and bank balance.
During investigation it was revealed that Uttam along with Shenoy had gone to celebrate Friendship Day at Mandai-based Pyasa hotel. During the course of the evening, an inebriated Shenoy revealed his ATM pin number to Uttam. After dinner, Uttam and Vishal insisted Mohan go on a long drive. They halted at Warje-based Petrol Pump to fill fuel and then went to Pirangut. Later the trio parked the autorickshaw to attend to nature's call and the duo took this opportunity to allegedly hit Shenoy with a stone. After reportedly murdering him, in an attempt to cover up their crime, they allegedly destroyed Shenoy's face to make it difficult for anyone to identify him. They then took his mobile and ATM card.
After the crime, they travelled to Shirdi, Solapur and Pune and withdrew Rs 50,000 on a daily basis from Shenoy's account for five days. They managed to withdraw Rs 2.5 lakh out of Rs 32 lakh as they wanted to start a business and invest in gold. However, their plan of draining the entire account got foiled after the the Paud police found the corpse and filed a murder case against unidentified person.
Both the accused have a criminal record with around 14 cases registered in connection with theft and house break-ins. The duo were produced before a Pune court and have been remanded to police custody of 14 days.
