Ask Sajid Khan to talk about the films that he loves, and it's going to be a long day. But he makes it highly entertaining for us, by showing us clips of his favourite movies on his big TV screen, over some yummy home-cooked lunch. The director discusses his favourite topic - films:

Filmi gene
My father was a filmmaker. He used to make B-grade black and white action films. I wasn't even born then. My mum's sisters were famous child artists (Daisy and Honey Irani). So since childhood, the atmosphere in the house has been filmly. We would have endless discussions on films and 'outings' for me meant going to the cinema. My parents got divorced when I was just seven. I was getting pretty psyched shuttling between their two houses that the only place that gave me a sense of calm was the local theatre. It was my escape route from every problem. I cannot think of a life without films. Someone once asked me if I could go to the Bigg Boss house, I said no. I can't survive there even for six hours; they don't even have a television there!

Tech talk
I saw my first videotape in 1981. I remember watching Escape From New York at home. Even then I wanted to acquaint myself with the home theatre experience. But my dad left us very poor, and though our relatives were rich, Farah and I started working at a young age. Whatever money I'd earn, if it didn't go to cover some debt for the house or for the rations, I would save it for a TV with stereo speakers. My most prized possession was Sharp 90/ET, the world's first 6-head hi-fi stereo VCR. I used to dream of it and when I bought it, I was the happiest person in this world. I had some 10-15 videotapes and I must have watched them at least 500 times.

Entertainment packed
I've seen so many films that I guess they have influenced my work a lot. I grew up on American, British and Bollywood big screen cinema. I believe that cinema is all about entertainment and fantasy. Given a choice between Transformer and Invictus, I'd pick the former anytime. I have a huge collection of super hero, horror, comedy TV shows that we Indians miss out on ufffd Blue Thunder, Flash, Incredible Hulk, Mission Impossible, Star Trek, Robo Cop, etc.u00a0
