The Common Integrated Police Application system to replace FIR registers with centralised computer database in Noida

Going digital is the latest fad and now Noida police has joined the bandwagon. Shedding the paper-pencil format, the police has replaced its FIR registers with centralised computer database to bring efficiency and transparency in the system.

The Common Integrated Police Application (CIPA) system has been introduced in the satellite town for registering an FIR. Computers have already been installed in each police station of the district and police officers are undergoing training on use of the software for successfully making the system centralised.

"Though the training of the first batch at Surajpur Police Lines is complete, training of the second batch is going on. Once completed, no FIR will be registered on paper," SSP of Gautam Budh Nagar AK Singh said.

Apart from computer skills, cops are getting English lessons too. "The cops are also being trained in computers and functional English. The FIRs can be registered in English and Hindi. It will reduce the burden of maintaining registers and will better the functioning of the police," he said.

With the hi-tech system, now lodging a complaint will not be time-consuming for people.u00a0Complainants will be required to inform the time of the incident and the time it is reported at the police station. The rest of the information, including the Section of the IPC, will be filled by the police.

The daily entries at a particular station will be checked by the area staion house officer (SHO) and other senior officers. All information like the number of FIRs, time, type of incident, action taken by the police and how the case has progressed, will be available to the senior officers on computers. This, in turn, ensures efficiency and transparency.

Noida police is also planning to revamp its website and make it more interactive. If the plan materialises, complainants will not require to visit a police station for filing an FIR.
