Gang rape: Ex-cop's son, 2 women among 7 arrested
Seven people, including the son of a retired police officer and two women, have been arrested in connection with the gang rape of a minor orphan girl here.
The accused are Kishore Jadhav, son of a former deputy superintendent of police, Nandu Shirsat, Anand Indrajeet, Praveen Rathod and Kiran Chabukswar.
Two women, Varsha Bharti and Jayshree Sharma, the mother of accused Kishore Jadhav, were also taken into custody for aiding and abetting the crime. All the accused have been produced before a local court for remand. The police said that the victim, who along with another girl had escaped on Wednesday night from the orphanage Vidyadeep Balgriha Chhavni, had gone to relieve herself around midnight in the Garkheda area when the accused Kishore Jadhav caught and dragged her to a car where his accomplices were waiting.
Thereafter, they took the victim to Jayshree Sharma’s house and gang raped her. On Thursday, the victim returned to the orphanage and recounted the incident to the superintendent, who lodged a police complaint. A team of investigators led by ACP B Sandeep traced the culprits and nabbed them yesterday, a police official said.
The youths, aged between 18 and 21 years, have been charged with kidnapping and rape, while the two women have been charged with aiding and abetting the crime.
