Paris: Formula One Grand Prix organisers confirmed that the German leg of this year’s championship scheduled for July 19 has been cancelled due to the lack of a venue.

Formula One’s governing body the FIA has issued a revised calendar featuring just 19 races instead of the original 20.

The sport’s controlling magnate Bernie Ecclestone had said in January that 2014 hosts Hockenheim would again stage the race, which normally alternates with the rival Nurburgring track, which has new owners and no contract for 2015.

But the venue was never officially confirmed, and on Thursday the managing director of the Hockenheim track Georg Seiler said it was too late now to organise it. “The time in which to organise a race has expired, otherwise the quality of the event would have suffered,” Seiler told German daily Bild. Seiler said Hockenheim planned to host the German GP in 2016 and 2018.
