Two armed robbers stabbed an army official to death and injured a constable when the latter was trying to catch them in the busy central railway station premises last afternoon.

Two armed robbers stabbed an army official to death and injured a constable when the latter was trying to catch them in the busy central railway station premises last afternoon.

According to RPF officials, a woman passenger had approached the on-duty constable, Ramachandra, seeking help against some miscreants who had robbed her of valuables around 3 pm yesterday.

"Acting on this, Ramachandra proceeded towards the entrance of the station and grabbed two youth who were identified by the woman.

While he was taking them inside the terminal building, one of them stabbed Ramachandra and tried to escape. Seeing this, Naik Navtinder Singh of the 21 Punjab Regiment, who was in his army vehicle parked near the spot, came forward to rescue Ramachandra," said RD Patil, inspector RPF police station.

"He was stabbed on the chest by the miscreants while he was trying to catch them," he added.

The duo managed to flee the spot. Navtinder was declared brought dead in the Railway Hospital and Ramachandra had to undergo a surgery in Sagar Apollo Hospital. A case has been registeredu00a0 with the GRP.
