With over 40 musicians, all-day workshops on arts like walking on fire and mallakhamb, and designated spaces that inspire visitors to mix, mingle and share their experiences, The Secret Garden Weekend is all set to kick off this weekend in Pune. The first-of-a-kind theme festival promises to offer a journey of sound, sight, smell, taste and touch, and will be held in the city for the first time.

Varsha Krishnani, organiser and conceptualiser of the event, says that the idea behind the festival is to offer a fresh experience, something people will remember for years. “We want people to get lost in a maze, learn how to walk on fire, feel like a child discovering new passions and talents. They can pick up a mouth harp for the first time and literally learn how to play it, or participate in something as unheard of as an organic sensual dance workshop or challenge their curiosity with Past Life Regression Therapy,” she says.

Krishnani adds that even the concept of sound has a theme, as each artiste and musician performing at TSGW have been given strict instructions to create a happy vibe through the diverse genres of music. But that’s not to restrict their musical sensibilities. “Artistes have been working on collaborations with new musicians. Imagine Carnatic vocals and Violin with percussions and a deep tech set. All played as a confluence,” she adds.

The festival will comprise a number of stages, each targetting a specific sense. The main stage will showcase the best of Indie and Electronica music, whereas the Gulmarg stage will be an enclosed igloo made of over 70 different types of fragrant flowers and light installations, showcasing rare and fresh World Music.

For those who would like to explore the boundaries of their taste buds, The Garden of Love comes with a selection of gourmet world cuisines, from Swiss Raclettes to local Japanese cuisine. And, if you want to go a step further, there will be a Table of Ten which will select 10 random visitors and put them on a table where they are taken on an eight course tasting menu of molecular and blindfolded treats.

But that’s not the end, when walking through the imaginary world of The Secret Garden, expect characters of love distributing hugs, tribal men performing rituals of fire, labyrinths of thoughts to lose yourself in the Tree of Secrets where you make a confession, or take time to head for a guided imagination process in the The Bed of Sound and Light. The two-day event also has a shower of colours planned as the finale act to bring a colourful ending to
the event.
