A constable from Pant Nagar police station and his colleague were chasing two thieves on a bike when they knocked down the cops and absconded
An intense chase to flag down two thieves, who were getting away on a bike, left an on-duty constable with a fractured leg yesterday at MG Road, towards Kurla. Constable Yashwant Kadam and colleague Chandrakand Gore from Pant Nagar police station on Monday had received a message about two suspicious riders and trailed the them and asked them to stop. However, the two instead of stopping, hit Kadam, fracturing his leg and fled the scene.

Senior Inspector Suresh Nirmale of Pant Nagar police said, “The two riders were alleged stealing stereo systems from cars because of which they may have got scared upon seeing the cops, and decided to flee. We even recovered two car stereos from the bag that they had dropped.”
Nirmale added that the two accused were first spotted at MG Road towards Mulund on Monday at 5 am but they fled. Later, Kadam and Gore who were intimated on the wireless spotted the bikers and tried to flag them down. But, the two accused rammed their bike into the constables, causing Kadam to fall down and fracture his leg.
Quaiser Khalid, additional commissioner of police (east region) said that the two bikers were stopped in their tracks when Gore threw a wooden stick which struck the wheels of bike causing them to fall down. “The two of them fell down after which they ran away leaving behind their bike and black bag,” added Khalid.
Kadam was immediately rushed to the Rajawadi Hospital and then later shifted to Fortis Hospital. Nirmale providing some description of the accused said, “The two riders are around 30 years old and we are verifying whether the bike which they possessed was a stolen one.”
The two unidentified accused have been booked under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 333 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt to deter public servant from his duty) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of a common cause).u00a0
