Days after a Std X student of Rosary School in Cantonment was injured after a she 'slipped' on the staircase during school hours, the deputy director of education department, Bhimrao Phadtare, initiated an inquiry into the matter on Saturday.
Investigators are expected to submit a detailed report of their findings by today. The inquiry was initiated after the girl’s parents accused the school authorities of not informing them about their daughter’s accident soon after it occurred. They also said the authorities waited for them to come to the school , instead of rushing their injured daughter to a hospital.

The incident had occurred on Thursday around 10.45 am. u00a0“After the incident, we protested outside the school and sought a clarification from the school authorities. But they remained tight-lipped. This prompted us to approach the deputy director of education department and we asked him to initiate an inquiry into this matter,” President of Shikshan Hakka Manch Matin Mujawar said. “The school should have taken the girl to a hospital immediately. But they waited for her parents. It was they who rushed her to the hospital. The behaviour exhibited by the authorities’ was insensitive.”
A delegation led by Majuwar met Phadtare after the incident and sought a detailed inquiry into this matter, and the alleged dereliction shown by the school authorities after the accident. u00a0“I have asked the deputy education officer of the zilla parishad to initiate an inquiry into this matter and submit the report as soon as possible,” Phadtare said.u00a0
He added that investigators would visit the school and inspect the accident spot. “During investigation, the school authorities will be questioned why they did not rush the girl to the hospital and instead waited for her parents to come,” said Phadtare.
After the incident school authorities had said the girl had slipped on the staircase while playing during recess time and that she was provided first aid . The girl at present is undergoing treatment at a private hospital.u00a0
