Delhi cops have learnt new moves. All this to keep the city safe during the Commonwealth Games. About 80,000 Delhi police personnel are in top shape, ready for deployment at respective venues and areas. All of them have been specially trained in Krav Maga, the deadly Israeli martial arts technique.

"The training of the policemen is complete and we are ready to deploy them on the ground," said a senior officer.

So the question is, is Tel Aviv aiding Delhi in securing CWG 2010? It's a valid question because security agencies in Delhi often turn to Israel for ordnance and even intelligence infrastructure needs. Recently police departments from several states including Delhi, had procured CornerShot guns from Israel, designed in the early 2000s for SWAT teams and special forces in hostile situations usually involving terrorists and hostages. Its purpose is similar to that of the wartime periscope rifle; it allows its operator to both see and attack an armed target, without exposing the operator to counterattack.

However, top officials have denied any official involvement of Israel in the training of Krav Maga. They instead termed the accomplishment a milestone in the modernisation of Delhi police.

Krav Maga is not a traditional or spiritual martial arts style like Kung Fu, Karate, Judo or Taekwondo. It's a tactical street fight, which was invented by a Jew named Imi. Imi invented this technique when Israel didn't exist and most Jews were living in the Czech Republic and were often attacked on the streets.

"Krav Maga is the world's best martial art form. The founder of this martial art Imi rehashed the tactics by the experiences and feedbacks from his students. There are no stringent moves in this martial art. The learners can learn this as per their requirement.

The special troops learn the tactics for their respective missions. Krav Maga can be taught to any segment of society as per their need. A commando can use Krav Maga to kill, while a cop can use it to take control of a criminal. Civilians can use it for self-defence," said Vicky Kapoor, chief trainer of Krav Maga in India.

Incidentally, Kapoor trained the first SWAT team of Delhi police last year.

FISTS OF FURY
KRAV Maga is the most modernised and refined version of hand-to-hand combat. It involves wrestling, grapplingu00a0 and striking techniques, mostly known for its extremely efficient and brutal counter-attacks, as it is also taught to elite special forces around the world. SWAT (USA), GIGN (France), GSG (Germany), SPETSNAZ (Russia) and most of the counter terrorist forces are trained in Krav Maga.
