Filmmaker Karan Johar today disapproved of the Censor Board's move to give certificate to item or special movie songs, terming it as an "unfair" step

Central Board of Film Certification or Censor Board has said it will examine dance numbers to see whether they are suitable for U, UA or A certificate. The decision comes in wake of views expressed in certain quarters that item numbers have "obscene" content and depict women in a bad light.u00a0

"I am not in agreement with the Censor Board. We are responsible filmmakers we look to entertain audience. Our job is to entertain audience," Karan told reporters at 'FICCI Frames' convention here. Karan felt there is a need for stricter rules and regulations to curb crime against women. "Instead of this (step) there is a need to go to grassroots level and curb it (crime against women).

There is need for proper rules, regulations and laws. Why single out film fraternity. Our job is to entertain and we do it through music."

"We have nautanki, folk music and songs. We never created the term 'item song'. It was created by the media. We have some talented actresses around and they dance on special songs.

There is sensuality to some of the songs but it depends on how a person looks at them. It is an unfair step," he said.u00a0
