At 7.30 am on Tuesday, Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan welcomed their first child, a baby boy. Kareena opted for a natural delivery, supervised by legendary Mumbai gynaecologist, Dr Rustom Soonawala and his team at Breach Candy hospital.
Interestingly, the doctor is also the one to have brought into the world Kareena, sister Karisma and cousin Ranbir.
The couple released a statement that read, "We are very pleased to share with you the wonderful news about the birth of our son Taimur Ali Khan Pataudi on the 20th of December 2016. We would like to thank the media for the understanding and support they have given us over the last nine months, and of course, our fans and well wishers for their continued affection. Merry Christmas and a happy new year to you all. With love, Saif & Kareena."

Actor Kunal Kemmu, who is married to Saif's sister, Soha Ali Khan, said, "I am very happy for bhai and Kareena. Everyone in the family is overjoyed and the baby is just too cute to be described in words."

It was Kareena's close friend and filmmaker Karan Johar, who first revealed the name on Twitter: "My Bebo had a baby boy! Am so so happy! #TaimurAliKhan."
Kareena had dropped a hint about the name on Neha Dhupia's audio show last month; she'd said Saif, being a fan of historicals, would want an old-school name.
sister Karisma Kapoor
Kareena's close friend, Tusshar Kapoor, who turned father recently through surrogacy, told us, "Congrats to my favourite co-star and first heroine. May this be the start to an even more glorious life. I wish everlasting joy to the little prince."
Designer Manish Malhotra, who has dressed the actress for possibly every film, said, "I am in Dubai and just heard the news from Lolo [Karisma]. I had told Bebo it would be a boy. It's [the news] wonderful."

Kareena and Saif got married on October 16, 2012. The actress has been in the news for the last nine months, setting an example for expectant mothers. She was working and making public appearances till as recently as two days ago when friends Amrita Arora Ladak, Malaika Arora and Karisma hosted an advance Christmas party for her.
Taimur (or Timur) translates to 'iron'. He was a 14th century Turco-Mongol ruler and Mughal dynasty founder, Babur's ancestor. His ambition was to rebuild the empire of Genghis Khan, who had died a century prior, and his conquests included large parts of Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Syria, and Delhi.
A promoter of arts and literature, he is behind the stunning city of Samarkand in Uzbekistan. History books remember him as the plunderer who razed cities — possibly one reason why some Twitter users reacted to the news with expected fanaticism.
One Twitter user wrote, "Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan naming their child Taimur is equivalent to Europeans naming their children Hitler." Another said, "Taimur was a looter who killed over one lakh Hindus in India. Arabic name to prove themselves real Muslim."
