Leopard entangled in wire snare near Naigoan rescued by SGNP team

A leopard got trapped in a wire snare near a tribal hamlet closed to Sarjamodi area off the Mumbai-Ahemdabad Highway, near Naigaon on Friday evening. It was safely rescued by the Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) rescue team

A leopard got trapped in a wire snare near a tribal hamlet closed to Sarjamodi area off the Mumbai-Ahemdabad Highway, near Naigaon on Friday evening. It was safely rescued by the Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) rescue team.


On Friday evening, the rescue team received a call about a leopard entering a place near a house. Sources from the forest department (FD) told this newspaper that the animal had got trapped in the wire. The FD team, led by ACF Santosh Saste, along with team member Santosh Pagare, veterinary doctor Sanjeev Pinjarkar, Raja Bhoir and Sachin Patil, reached the area at around 7.30 pm,


An official confirmed, “We have safely rescued a male leopard. We have tranquilised the animal. After proper medical examination, it will be released in the wild if found fit."
