The 35 students of Arya Vidya Mandir at BKC sustained minor injuries after the driver lost control of the bus, brushed against an auto rickshaw and collided into a divider; he later fled the scene
Around 35 students of primary and secondary sections of the Arya Vidya Mandir (AVM) School at Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) were in for a rude shock when their school bus met with an accident.

It was 8.20 am and the bus was on its way to school yesterday. While taking a turn at Kalanagar junction, the driver lost control and the bus brushed against an auto rickshaw. It then hit a car parked near the divider, and finally crashed into the divider. The driver immediately fled.

The lady attendant on board, Tarannum, took care of the children inside the bus. A school official who was travelling just behind the bus saw the incident, and immediately called for another bus to take the children to school. Parents were also immediately informed, and because the driver had pulled the brakes abruptly, a few children were injured. First-aid was provided to all those who needed it, and the injured ones were dropped home.
The bus is in possession of the BKC police. A parent said, “My child was not in this particular school bus. But I went to pick him up from school, as he used to come home in the same bus. Since the bus is at the police station, I guessed there would be no bus for him.”
A case was registered at the BKC police station. Navnath Kale, police sub-inspector at the station, said, “We have registered a case against the bus driver Ganesh (last name unknown).
He is around 28 years old. We have booked him under sections 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), 427 (mischief causing damage), and also section 134 (A)(B) (running away and not giving medical help) of the Motor Vehicles Act. We are searching for him and we’ve called the contractor too. No student sustained any major injuries. If the driver’s background has not been checked by the contractor, we may file a case against the contractor too.”
Anusaya Jaywant Contractors provide the buses to the school. When MiD DAY called the contact number provided on the buses, the person on the other line said it was not a number of a travel agency. Despite having made calls and visits to the school, its principal Pramila Kudwa refused to meet the reporter.u00a0
