All the fans who loved the book Malgudi Days or avidly watched the series on TV can rejoice as a new interpretation of the book is set to hit the stage over the weekend. Taarago.com, an activity and hobby portal and WeMoveTheatre from Bangalore are presenting the staged version of India's most loved novel.

Titled Malgudi Daaze, the play is an adaptation from RK Narayan's novel Malgudi Days. Malgudi is a semi-urban town in southern India conjured up by Narayan in early 1930. It is a collection of short stories and each character represented the epitome of Indian culture and tradition during the changing times under the British raj and the early days of post-independence. After successfully creating eight hit productions, WeMoveTheatre is now staging the play to take us down memory lane.
Rangaraj Bhatracharya, actor and one of the founders of the group, elaborates on the origin of the theatre group, "One of the guys put up a message on a social networking site saying that he wanted to do a short film. We did not do the film but got together and our first play was 'Me My Love' based on the novel Anything For You Ma'am by Tushar Raheja."
He admits that it was a challenge taking up such an epoch-making novel. "But our aim is to stage plays on famous writings of Indian authors so that today's generation can become aware of great Indian writing," he adds.u00a0
In the play, they have four stories woven together. The research team selected a few short stories from the novel, scripted them to screenplays and integrated them using a humorous screenplay. Anil Chouhan, the founder of TaaraGo, says the aim in staging the play is to bring wholesome entertainment to families. Malgudi Daaze premiered in Bangalore in 2010 and got a full house. The play was later staged across Bangalore, with back-to-back shows catering to audience demand.
